2:16PM - Back into the Studio goes Sir Reginold's Night Time Singers

I just received word that tonight the band will be at the studio for one of our final sessions to finish the full length CD!

In a week (9/16 -Wednesday night) we'll be playing at the Green Frog Acoustic Tavern. It's a free show and it starts at 9ish. We won't have the CD ready by then, but there are 2 EPs and t-shirts to purchase. You can get both EPs and a t-shirt for just $20!

10:14AM - Interesting idea

Follow this link: http://www.pampelmoose.com/mspeaks/2009/02/how-bands-can-make-more-money-by-not-putting-a-price-on-a-cd

Read the article.

Tell me what you think about it.

I think it is a revolutionary idea. I really like it. The difficulty would be in the chance that too many people only offer less for each CD than the work/money you put into creating it. On the other hand, if there is someone that only likes one song and only pays for one song when they buy the CD there's a greater chance of that person listening to the entire CD and then paying much more for the next one they buy.

10:14AM - SXSW

Well, I dropped the ball and it is now official that the band is NOT playing at South by Southwest. I will try registering again in the fall and maybe next year we will make it. Here is the letter I received:

Dear Sir Reginold Cosgrove & His Night Time Singers,

Thank you for submitting music to SXSW in consideration for a showcase. This year, SXSW Music received and reviewed over 10,000 submissions. Unfortunately, this means that we must turn down many artists. With that in mind, we will be unable to offer Sir Reginold Cosgrove & His Night Time Singers a showcase this year. Please be assured that your materials were given full consideration. We wish you the best in your musical pursuits.

Sincerely,
The SXSW Music Festival staff

In other news, we packed the house last Saturday night at Cap Hansen's and left the crowd demanding more (we did play 2 encores). It was an awesome show and a ton of fun. Thanks to all who made it. There were many new faces and that was good to see.

This Friday we will be opening for Sons of the Widow James at the New Frontier Lounge in Tacoma. I hope to see some of my Seattle-area friends there! Details should be on the website (www.sirreg.com for those that haven't seen it yet).

4:03PM - Cabin Tavern

After a long week at work it was refreshing to change up and have a Sir Reginold Cosgrove and His Night Time Singers show at the Cabin Tavern.

We needed to provide our own sound system, since the Cabin does not have one. So I arrived just after 7pm with my live-in roadie (PM Postermonkey) in tow to get things set up. The equipment arrived 15min later. PM Postermonkey and I, with the help of my parents and one Joshua Nicholas, set up the sound system and then waited for the band equipment to arrive. The Shadow and George were up at the rehearsal space (aka George's apartment) waiting for the Rookie to show up so they could get all the gear to the Cabin. Eventually, everything was ready to go and the lovely katosphere opened up the show. She was absolutely fantastic! If anyone has the chance to see her perform, go! You will enjoy yourself throughly.

Then it was time for Sir Reg, minus Sir Reginold--who is currently in Tienamandu looking for some sacred golden monkey, we pressed on and began without him.

There was lots of dancing, lots of friends in the audience, and lots of great music. My favourite part was when it got too hot inside the bar, the dancers went outside and were dancing out on the sidewalk.

Today, my fingers feel like they should belong to an arthritic old woman and my ears are still complaining about being so close to the Rookie's enthusiastic drumming, but it was all worth it.

Coming up we have another couple of shows:

Tuesday night (8/19) at the Wild Buffalo--we have the whole evening to ourselves please come and make sure we have someone to play for. No Cover! Starts around 9pm
Saturday night, September 13th, at the Wild Buffalo--we're opening for someone cool, but no one has given me the band's name. Details as I get them.

Special thanks to all who came last night! There's to many of you to mention here (and I don't know everyone's lj user name). More thanks to all who have purchased our merchandise--soon we will be back in the studio to finish our full length album.

Until next time!

8:37AM - South by Southwest

In just a few weeks, I will be attempting to get Sir Reginold Cosgrove and His Night TIme SIngers registered for South by Southwest (SXSW).  It's going to be crazy and a little scary, but it will be so awesome!

Below is a message I just received from their listserve. I had thought that we had missed registration for this coming SXSW, but it turns out I was wrong.

The Wait is Almost Over

SXSW online registration will open in early August for all you early
birds anxious to buy your badge and reserve your hotel. We'll let you
know (via this listserve) that sxsw.com has gone live for you to
register to attend, book your hotel, or submit your festival
application. Want to know the what, when, who, where, or how? All will
be revealed in August.

Now if I can get the band registered, then I get to see if I can get a hold of  my old friend Eddie to see if we can crash on his couch that week.

10:37PM - A song for the summer heat

Last summer when  the heat became almost  unbearable, I wrote  a little song, that maybe one day the band will perform.  The heat  today reminded me of it.

It wasn't quite that  hot for me today, but it might be how some people feel.

9:33PM - In the Studio--DayTwo

Woo hoo!!! Boy oh boy! Did we rock today! We did all the songs we've been planing to record for the album, plus a few more!

There's a bunch more to do before it's all done, but we're half way there. In about a month, we'll be going back in to fix stuff and such. For now we're done.

We are planing on having a 5 song CD available for purchase by our next show (March 27th at the Green Frog). So when you come, bring an extra $5 and you'll go home with some of our music!

Now it's time for me to go to bed, 'cuz I've gotta go to work early tomorrow morning.

10:57PM - At the Studio--Day One

So my first day in a recording studio went really well! I'm currently listening to a rough of the day's work and it's AWESOME!! There are a few things that need correction, but overall it sounds amazing. I wish that I could share the music with everyone on livejournal, but when the CD is ready everyone will have the opportunity to purchase a copy or come over to my house and listen to it.

fenmere was there taking pictures and he posted a few. You can find them at this Photo Gallery. There are more to come tomorrow and another update as well. Now I'm tired and need to go to bed.

10:50PM - Recording Studio Here I Come!

In just 3.5 days, Sir Reginold Cosgrove and His Nighttime Singers will enter the recording studio to cut our first CD. We’ve been practicing like mad, trying to get all of our intros and endings to perfection—or as close as we can get to perfection.

I’m really excited! I’m extraordinarily nervous too. I can’t wait for Sunday to get here, and yet I wish for another week or two to practice some more. Ack!

1:51PM - Possible gig, no longer a possibility

I had a talk with my boss today and he has officially decided not to have us play for the Christmas party. It all works well, since he wasn't going to pay us to play either.

Thanks for being available. Sorry it didn't pan out.

1:07PM - Live at the Wild Buffalo

Last night we had a show at the Wild Buffalo again. As always, we rocked the house! It was a short one hour set, since there were 2 other bands playing, but it was a good thing since The Shadow has been having vocal problems for the last month.

There were a few amazing things that happened that I feel the need to share:
1. The Shadow was able to sing.
2. We continued our current tradition of playing a new song at each show.
3. WE DIDN'T BREAK ANY STRINGS!!!

We've been plagued with string breakage for the entire history of Sir Reginold Cosgrove and His Night Time Singers shows. In fact, one of our last shows featured all of us breaking at least one string on each guitar we brought (that would be 4 guitars) and one on my bass. So, to go through a show and not have any strings break is a great accomplishment.

As for the new song tradition: In April or May (perhaps it was as late as July) we had just finished hauling all the equipment back to jumpin_g's place and he and the Shadow sat down and wrote a song. They shared it with me and the Rookie at the next rehearsal and we all loved it. So we decided to play it for our next gig, which we did. It was a hit and inspired another song. We played that one at the show we had 2 weeks later. Then we realized that it is fun to play new songs at every gig, so we worked on another one for the show that was the next week. Now, after doing something new at the last 3 shows it's almost a gimick--"Come to our next show and hear something new!" We can't change now. Which meant that last night we played yet another new song. This one featured me on lead vocals, singing about something I really like doing--driving fast! (Sadly, since I can't afford speeding tickets, I only sing about driving fast right now.)

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

For those who were unable to attend, you missed out on some terrific music--not just Sir Reg, but the other 2 bands that played.

For those who were unable to attend last night's show solely because it was on a Thursday night, I'm sorry. It is hard to get weekend shows, but if anyone wants to get us a weekend gig, feel free to do so! I know that I would much rather have a show where I could stay late and drink a lot and not have to worry about being extremely tired or hungover for work the next day.

2:50PM - Possible GIG

Hey bandmates!

The company I work for is having a Christmas party on December 7th and is toying with the possibility of live music. I put the band out there as a potential option, but since I haven't talked to any of you I can't actually give them any solid answers.

I don't know if we'd be paid much but it will be a catered party so we will eat very well if nothing else. Also it will be held in Burlington/Mt. Vernon at the Cotton Tree Inn and will start at 6. That's all I have so far. More info to come soon.

Does that sound like something we'd like to do?

BTW: The ROokie needs an lj account.

4:53PM - Up Comming Sir Reg Gig!!!

Just received a call from George saying we have another Wild Buffalo gig! It's gonna be on November 15th.

Yeah, I know that it's a Thursday night, but it's a gig!

Wh00t!

Hey look a pic from one of our last gigs!

1:10AM - Green Frog Acoustic Tavern

I should be heading to bed and not updating my lj.

Tonight's show was so fun! I had to share. The stage was one of the smallest we've been on to date, but we made it work. It seemed like we had a short set, but based on the time we arrived home it was about the same as we've been doing.

It was awesome to see our faithful fans in the crowd, but it was just as good to see new faces!

Alright, I'm yawning too much. I'm off to bed.

Good night

6:03PM - News

So the band has a couple of gigs in April.

The first one is on the 5th at Chiribin's. The second is on the 26th at the Wild Buffalo. Both should be superb.

I'm not feelin so hot today, and I made a stop at the Co-op for some Odwalla orange juice. While I was there I ran into Patrick of Good Monkey and he mentioned that he is trying to put together a show in September with a bunch of bands all covering David Bowie. He asked if I would pass this on to the other members of Sir Reginold Cosgrove and His Night Time Singers and see if they would be interested in playing at that show, because he likes us and would love to have us participate.

This makes me feel so special.

So whaddya say band mates? Do any of you livejournal any more? I guess I'll have to make some phone calls to be sure.
